Join the Harmony team and help ensure humanity flourishes alongside ever more advanced AI systems

Our mission

To ensure the safe flourishing of humanity in a world with ever more advanced AI systems.

We recognize the tremendous potential of AI to positively impact the world, but also the risks posed if not developed carefully. Join our motivated team and help build the effective defenses humanity will need to protect against AI's risks & challenges!

What we've done

We're a rapidly-growing, remote-first startup with brilliant, kind and impact-driven folks across San Francisco, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Though we’re new, we're already making a big impact -- we’ve contributed to the safety evaluations of frontier models from leading AI labs, published three AI safety papers to massively positive reception (including 9 citations in the International AI Safety Report chaired by Yoshua Bengio), and spoken in front of an Australian Senate hearing on AI.

What we're working on

Cybersecurity is undergoing a tectonic shift due to AI and we need to ensure people & organizations are protected. We’re building AI defensive cybersec agents to defend mission-critical systems in a world where AI makes cyberattacks faster, cheaper, and much more sophisticated.

Our team

Our world-class team is made up of deeply experienced startup builders, managers, and engineers from orgs including Plaid, Vow, 0x, Culture Amp, Duke University, and MATS.

The Harmony team meeting up for an impromptu offsite in Sydney!

Why you'll love it here

  • Have real impact solving the biggest and most pressing challenge of our lifetimes
  • 20 vacation days and unlimited recovery, family, and caregiver leave
  • Regular company off-sites at fun, energizing locations (our last one was in Kyoto, Japan ⛩️!)
  • Inclusive, collaborative culture that thrives on diverse perspectives and backgrounds
  • Continuous learning opportunities and clear paths for career growth
  • Remote-first, with a flexible policy to work from home or from an office; outcomes-driven, no micromanagement

Geographic location & collaboration hours

As a remote-first team, it's important we find time to collaborate and support one another. To help facilitate this, we hire within a limited time zone range.

We consider candidates located between the Eastern Time (ET) and westward to Australian Western Standard Time Zone (AWST) (see map above). This includes Oceania, East Asia, most of North America, and parts of South America. We can only consider candidates primarily based in these regions or able to relocate there. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.

Our collaboration hours are 10pm - 3am UTC during your local weekdays (Examples: 6pm-11pm EDT / 3pm-8pm PDT / 8am-1pm AEST). We use this time for stand-ups, brainstorming sessions, pair programming sessions, and other meetings. You don’t necessarily have to work every day during these hours, but we expect you to generally be available to join meetings and collaborate with the team when needed.

Collaboration hours are a general rule of thumb, not a hard requirement. We understand that you may have some non-work needs (e.g. caregiver responsibilities, recovering from illness, personal emergencies) on certain days. As long as you communicate with your team and manager and are generally available during collaboration hours, that works for us 🙂.

Open Positions

Full-Stack Software Engineer

This is a career-defining role that will help build the future of AI-native cybersecurity. If you thrive on variety, move fast, and want your work to make a meaningful impact on AI safety and security, you're in the right place!

We’re looking for a jack/jill of many trades, master of some. It's fine if you lean more heavily into one domain (e.g. backend systems, front-end UX, cybersecurity, ML/LLMs), but you will need to jump in quickly to wherever the stack needs you.

We value growth potential over a perfect skills and experience match. Our field is always evolving, and we embrace learning as we go. If you meet many of the criteria below but not all of them, we encourage you to apply anyway!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and building AI-powered cybersecurity products and autonomous agents
  • Prototyping new ideas, applying cutting-edge AI research, and shaping early product direction with the team
  • Working directly with customers, partners, and researchers to solve real-world problems
  • Mentoring and collaborating with fellow engineers to raise the technical bar and foster a culture of learning
  • Communicating technical proposals and findings to different audiences
  • Scaling up infrastructure and making code more efficient

What you bring to the table:

  • Genuine passion for our mission — the safe flourishing of humanity alongside AI — and an impact mindset in everything you do
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial full-stack work across the development lifecycle — from architecture design and prototyping, to deployment and long-term maintenance and debugging
  • Capacity to independently plan and carry out large software projects from inception to completion
  • Flexibility to wear multiple hats, context-switching between different roles and responsibilities as needed
  • Comfort with Python fundamentals
  • Familiarity with basic web technologies: HTTP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

Nice to haves:

  • Cybersecurity experience, potentially including pentesting, vulnerability management, security incident response, or threat intelligence
  • Experience with Docker and related tools (e.g. Docker Compose, Kubernetes)
  • Deep experience in front-end and UI development, including front-end frameworks such as React
  • Prior experience as a founder or early employee at a rapidly growing startup
  • Knowledge of common LLM architectures (e.g. GPT, BERT), and experience with fine-tuning and/or prompting LLMs
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization, and reporting tools (e.g. pandas, Matplotlib, seaborn, Plotly)
  • Exposure to DevOps / cloud infra services such as AWS, GCP, Azure or similar

Compensation:

Salary ranges and packages are quoted for US and Australia respectively; local adjustments for other countries.

  • USA: $150k USD to $250k USD + comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Australia: $150k AUD to $250k AUD + superannuation

Additionally, we offer generous stock options that give you a stake in the company's success. Equity ranges from 0.1% to 1% depending on skills and background.

Expression of interest

If none of the above open roles is a fit for you, but you think you'd be a great future member of the Harmony team, we'd still love to hear from you.
